Hi! I’m George the Ford!
I was named after George Washington Carver who was an incredible farmer and agricultural scientist.
Some facts about me:
I was built in early 1947,
I’m a one-ton pick up with a “stake style bed”
My engine is my original, number matched, 6-cylinder engine.
I had a total, frame-off restoration in 2016 by a Gasper’s Automotive Restoration.
My main paint color is called “Greenfield Green”, the accents are “Tacoma Cream”.
I have a 4 gear, straight clutch transmission and my drivers must “double clutch” to change gears.
My max speed is 47mph…which I think is pretty funny since I’m a 1947 truck.
I was probably an Army truck based on the original bed and tailgate I had.
My tailgate is original too!
My current tires are Mexican bus tires; they are the closest size and configuration that match my earlier tires.
My original purchase price is listed as $1,390.
There were about 29k one-ton Ford pickups, like me, made in 1947
The 1947 Ford Pickup trucks were essentially unchanged since the 1942 pre-WW II version trucks. In late 1947 the Ford pickup trucks were redesigned by Mr. Henry Ford with some additional comfort features like adjustable seats, wider cabs, and a fancy windshield wiper that was operated by a foot pump pedal. I don’t have any of these features, so I was one of the early models that year. Interestingly, the late 1947 trucks were the last models that Mr. Ford was actively involved with the design and build.
There were 16 factories in the US that built the Ford pickup trucks but there were additional factories in Canada that built the same vehicle. The Canadian built trucks were marketed and sold as a Mercury M-Series truck, so we have different names but we’re basically twins.
